What is your process for creating a website?

The process comes in two parts: your side and my side! On your side, I need to know the level of professionalism you want, if you have a corporate/business theme with a logo, business name, and font types, styles, and weights. What are your hopes for this website. What do you want to accomplish? Who is your target audience? Are you selling product or service or both? Is your website primarily to dispense information or...? Do you need an online newsletter? Are you providing all or some of the graphics?

On my end, I create three possibilities. Three draft ideas if you will. From there we begin to tune it to your ideal preferences.

What coding languages do you use?

I use CSS and HTML along with JavaScript for the custom sites. For a quick website, I use iWeb.

How do you estimate time to write/edit a project?

Each project is individual with its own particular requirements. In general, the projects I work on can be divided into hourly and per-project. Obviously, the hourly is much more flexible and highly dependent upon the depth of the research or editing/proofing/fact checking, and the number of pages involved as well as if considerable rewrite is required. When reading for work, I slow down to 400wpm—if that helps! Per-project time estimates are not an issue as it is a flat rate unless more than two revisions (see Other Project Fees) are required.
